Alpha Cottage Children's Home Report April 2026

During the second quarter, all the children attended school without major challenges. However, some continue to experience academic difficulties due to challenging backgrounds and previous interruptions in their education. To support their learning, our university interns provide homework assistance and remedial support. We remain committed to improving each child's educational progress and appreciate the continued support of our donors in making this possible.

Currently, our enrollment is at 44 children; 40 are enrolled in schools and tertiary education. Four are out-of-school youth with the following challenges: one is physically and partially mentally challenged; another one is autistic, and the last two are partially mentally challenged.

Psycho-Social Support (Socialization) 

The institution offers psycho-social support to enhance children's mental and emotional wellbeing. Social workers, caregivers, and stakeholders collaborate to facilitate socialization with peers both inside and outside the home. This helps children integrate with society, develop problem-solving skills, teamwork, and leadership abilities. 

Life Skills Training

Life skills training programs equip children with practical knowledge to prepare them for life after leaving the home. These programs involve projects such as market gardening, grinding mill, and chicken rearing. Children also learn landscaping skills, which broaden their skillset for future opportunities.

Counselling Sessions 

Counselling is provided to children facing challenges that may have affected their mental health, self-esteem, or behavior. The sessions aim to restore their mental wellbeing and address behavioral issues. 

Recreational Activities

Children participate in recreational activities, including sports, games, and arts, which help reduce stress, promote physical fitness, and identify talents. These activities encourage teamwork, gender balance, and child development. 

Home Education

The institution educates children on societal norms, values, and responsibilities. This training fosters respect for elders, cooperation, teamwork, and good conduct, preparing them for life after leaving the institution. Children also receive help with assignments and learning tasks.

Case Management

The institution provides case management to address children's behavioral issues and challenges. Misconduct is handled through counselling and light corrective tasks, helping to reduce deviant behavior. 

Daily Devotions

Daily devotions instill moral values, respect, and positive behavior in children. The Christian community provides moral guidance, contributing to the molding of the children's character.

Appeal for Support for Staff Allowances.

Alpha Cottage Children's Home is seeking a donor or funding partner to sponsor staff allowances for a period of 12 months.  The Home requires USD 7,200 per year, 600 USD per month

This temporary support will enable the Home to retain the staff who provide daily care and services to the children while strengthening its income-generating projects, including the broiler project, grinding mill, market gardening, and drip irrigation initiative. As these projects become fully established and financially sustainable, Alpha Cottage expects to generate sufficient income to progressively meet its own staff allowance obligations and reduce dependence on donor support.

Investment in staff support during this transition period will help ensure continuity of care for the children while building a sustainable financial future for the Home.
