The regional food crisis in this southern area of Africa is worsening significantly.
People are facing serious food shortages, as staple maize prices are increasing exponentially.
In Zimbabwe, where aid agencies estimate that nearly 4 million people need help, price of staple foods
have climbed by as much as 700 percent. It is reported by government officials that this nation is
experiencing 85% unemployment rate. Reverend Henry Nels, Founder of Zimbabwe Medical, Educational
Development (ZMED) Ministries said, “there have been very low harvest levels, and many factors contribute
to this. The coping strategies of people are weakened…HIV/AIDS have decimated households, and fewer people
are available to work in the fields.” Change A Life Foundation is committed to responding to this chronic
food insecurity and currently has teamed up with ZMED Ministries to help the immediate need and to provide
long-term development in Zimbabwe. Change A Life is assisting ZMED in providing one meal a day for 6,413
children through the school feeding program in the remote rural/bush jungle of Northern Matabeland of Zimbabwe.
CHANGING CHILDREN’S LIVES

Unloading a shipment of maize to Ndagababi school in Zimbabwe

The children are so excited to see the shipment of food. They can be assured that they will receive at least one meal a day by coming to school

More than 120,000 children under the age of 15 are living with HIV in Zimbabwe. Every week, hundreds
more contract the virus because of a lack of antiretroviral medicines to prevent mother-to-child transmission.
As a result, Zimbabwe – once a jewel of Southern Africa – suffers sharp increases in child mortality.
